- The Kouvola-Xi’an freight train was packed with Finnish machinery, timber, and other goods.
- In June 2016, Finnish papermaker Stora Enso began operating a board-and-pulp factory in Guangxi Region, southern China. The Finnish factory will produce liquid packaging board, a high quality material used to manufacture beverage (e.g. milk and juice) cartons. Liquid packaging board cartons allow for long-distance distribution. The factory will have an annual production capacity of 450,000 tons of liquid packaging board.
- From January to June 2016, according to the Finnish Sawmill Industry Association, Finnish timber exports to China increased 16% year-on-year. According to the CEO of Kinnaskoski (sawmill in western Finland), China’s furniture industry has spurred demand for sawn timber.
- From 2011 to 2015, Chinese imports of sawn timber from Finland increased from 134,629 cubic meters to 619,049 cubic meters (US$33.8 million to US$159.1 million).
