Five people have been detained on suspicion of dumping 300 tonnes of diseased pigs in a mountainous area of Huzhou city [near Shanghai], eastern China’s Zhejiang Province.   • In early March 2013, Chinese authorities near Shanghai were notified of dead pigs in the Huangpu River. During the month, approximately 16,000 dead pigs were recovered from the river. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the pig deaths were caused by an outbreak of porcine circovirus and inclement winter weather. The pigs were originally dumped in Zhejiang Province.
