China has become the principal destination for Argentina’s meat exports, taking 35 percent of the total, according to Argentina’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries. - From January to June 2015, Argentina reportedly exported 17,051 MTs of beef to China.
- In 2013, mainland China imported 11,332 MTs of beef. The primary supplier was Australia (11,068 MTs). Hong Kong imported 6,537 MTs of beef and was mostly supplied by Australia (2,755 MTs) and the USA (2,096 MTs). Argentina only supplied a few MTs of beef to both mainland China and Hong Kong in 2013.
- In August 2013, China permitted the importation of 60,000 metric tons of GMO Argentine corn. The corn was to be used for chicken and hog feed.
- In 2012, Argentina’s Ministry of Agriculture and China’s State Administration of Grain (SAG) signed Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation relating to grain.
