Early forecasts from Citrus Annual 2014 says that the orange production in China is going to decrease by 10% to 6.9 million metric tons (MMT) in the marketing year (MY) 2014/15. The cause of this problem is the continuing impact of Huanglongbing (HLB) also known as citrus greening disease in the main growing region of Jiangxi. - Guangdong Province is China’s largest mandarin/tangerine producer, with cultivation also occurring in Jiangxi and others. Oranges are produced (among others) in the provinces of Hunan, Guangxi, and Jiangxi. Grapefruit/pomelo production primarily occurs in Fujian Province, while lemon production takes place in Sichuan Province (80% of China’s lemons are cultivated in Anyue County, Sichuan).
- During the upcoming 2014/2015 season, it is expected that China will cultivate mandarins on 820,000 ha (a 2% increase from the year before) and oranges on 780,000 ha (a small decline). In total, China is projected to produce 18.5 million MTs of mandarins/tangerines, 6.9 million MTs of oranges, 3.9 million MTs of grapefruit/pomelos, and 430,000 MTs of lemons.
- In 2012, China produced 13.7 million MTs of mandarins/tangerines, 6.6 million MTs of oranges, 3.8 million MTs of grapefruit/pomelos, 2.3 million MTs of lemons/limes, and 5.5 million MTs of other citrus fruit.

Other regional citrus producers of note include Guangxi (3.5 million MTs or 12%), Hubei (3.3 million MTs or 11%), Sichuan (3.1 million MTs or 11%), and Fujian (3 million MTs or 10%).
