Farmers have been urged to learn technological farming practices from Chinese experts in order to boost their productivity and improve their livelihoods. The call was made on Wednesday during a day-long field visit at the China-Rwanda Agriculture Technology Demonstration Centre (C-RATDC) in Rubona, Huye District. - The centre, located in southern Rwanda (opened in 2011), focuses on the production of upland rice, paddy rice, mushrooms, sericulture, as well as soil and water conservation.
- According to the Director of the Rwanda Agriculture Technology Demonstration Centre, rice yields have increased from 3.5 MTs per hectare to 6.5 MTs per ha.
- In April 2014, a Chinese delegation, led by the president of Foreign Economic Cooperation Center (FECC), visited the demonstration center in Huye district, southern Rwanda.
