After it completes its new ocean fisheries base early next year, the town of Lianjiang, Fujian province, expects to make the change from a mere fishing base to a one-stop industrial chain covering everything from fishing, to processing, storage, sales, and even research and development on the industry.
Work on the base, which began in 2010, includes wharves, infrastructure, repair plants, cold storage, processing plants, and research and development facilities, as well as dormitories. The Lianjiang Farsea Fishery Co, Fujian’s first ocean fishery company to be listed, is financing the work.
Farsea Fishery was founded by Zhang Huoli, a local man, in 1995 and, now, after more than a decade of development, it has become one of China’s leading enterprises of its kind. It was listed on the South Korean stock exchange in May 2009.
